Project Description

Sarah is a particularly special cake to us, because it was made for my own wedding.  Designing my own cake was far more difficult than I thought it would be…turns out that total flexibility makes decision-making really hard!! In the end, we created a large five-tier, white-on-white design to fit the grand scale of the venue ceiling height.

The tiers themselves were decorated with a bespoke stencil pattern which matched the beading on my veil as well as a monogram of our initials.  I adore making sugar flowers so these featured heavily in the design – a wreath and topper of sugar roses, peonies, stock and astilbe in shades of white, dusky pink and green to match our bouquets.  The entire design was then placed on a bed of stunning fresh flowers provided by a friend and industry colleague, Gemma at Little Gems Flowers.  In the end, I think both the best and worst bit for me was getting to cut it with my father’s sword – the same sword that my parents used to cut their wedding cake a few decades ago and my brother used with his wife to cut theirs earlier this year.

The tiers themselves were different types of fruit cake which was provided with a separate chocolate orange cutting cake to cater for everyone.

Hope you all like is and, most importantly, a massive thank you to our photographer, Steffen Milsom Photography for capturing the cake pictures for us.
