Charlotte is a beautiful 5-tier baby blue wedding cake decorated with pink ombre sugar flowers and lace detailing. The design of this cake was inspired by various cakes which the Bride had seen, the invitations and colour scheme for the wedding day. The brief was for a cake which was ‘vintage -themed’ but not too fussy and could serve a large number of guests. The reception venue was beautiful but very large converted barn with high ceilings so we also chose a 5-tier design to make sure it could be seen by everyone.
While the majority of the cake was a simple blue fondant, wrapped with an ivory satin ribbon and piped dot border, there were many details on this cake. The specific lace pattern which the Bride loved was replicated by using a lace mould which we found and imported from the US. The mould itself only produces a very small piece of the pattern so has to be used repeatedly, trimmed and then assembled like a jigsaw to create the overall effect. It’s a very time consuming process but we love it!
The sugar flowers on the cake are all hand made in shades of pink to form the large display topper and the ‘bunches’ of flowers on each tier. They are intermixed with sugar leaves and tiny filler flowers. If you look carefully, you will also see the little ‘signposts’ amongst the flowers (matching the bunting topper!) with the names of the Bride and Groom, the wedding date, venue name and town. The cake was displayed on a stunning silver cake stand hired from a local company and looked magnificent with the vintage barn decorations on the Cornish Coast.
