FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some of the most common questions we receive but if you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Step 1: contact us to check that your date is available.
Step 2: arrange a no-obligation consultation to discuss your requirements and book into our next tasting session.
Step 3: once the design is confirmed, transfer the date-retainer fee and then relax! We will take over the arrangements and ensure that everything is in place for your Big Day!
We only accept a very limited number of orders and bookings are allocated on a first-come, first served basis. As a result, we advise that you contact us as soon as possible if you would like us to make your cake. It is not uncommon for popular dates to be booked up two years in advance.
For practical purposes at least 2 months notice is advised for wedding cakes but we will always try to accommodate last minute orders if we have availability. Fruit cakes must be ordered at least three months in advance to give them time to mature.
Yes. Delivery on the day of the event is free within 5 miles of Taw Hill, Swindon (SN25) and delivery outside of this area can be arranged for a charge. We have delivered cakes as far afield as Cornwall and Scotland so can provide Nationwide delivery if necessary.
The delivery charge includes liaising with your venue events team and assembly of the cake on site where necessary. In some cases, cakes may be collected but this is not recommended. Simplicity Cakes by Sarah cannot be held responsible for any damage to the cake once it has left our premises.
Yes! Thanks to modern technology, we have had the pleasure of working with Brides not just in the UK but around the World! We can offer video-call-based consultations and then will arrange for a special set of samples to be ready when you are next in the UK for your venue visit. It needs a little more logistical work, but this is a service we are proud to offer.
Consultations are advised for all wedding cakes and are an opportunity to discuss your ideas, requirements and a design for your cake. The consultation is usually held with the Bride and Groom but may also be directly with a Wedding Planner if requested. Unless your consultation is on the same day as a cake testing, samples will not be provided but you will be able try samples at the next tasting session. Following the consultation, we will prepare a quotation for you based on the agreed design for your review and approval.
If you have any ideas or inspiration for your cake then bring it with you, similarly any colour swatches if you would like to match colours. It is often nice to tie your cake in with other designs, such as your invitations and flowers so bring information about these if you have them. We will need a contact name with whom we can arrange delivery and setup of your cake.
Tasting sessions happen once every few months and are an opportunity for you to try all of our standard flavours. We will also have a mini-consultation to discuss your cake requirements. Appointments last an hour and can be made by contacting us. At the moment, all tasting sessions have to take place at our kitchen but we are hoping to be able to post samples across the UK very shortly.
Yes – while many venues already have their own cake stands, we do have a three beautiful cake stands available to hire if you would like a different look. Hiring a cake stand will incur an additional deposit which will be redeemable when the stand is returned in its original condition.
Following a consultation (where applicable), a non-refundable 50% date-retainer is required to secure your booking. See our terms and conditions for full details.
Our cakes are made from scratch by hand using luxury ingredients and finished to competition standard – we do everything from going to multiple shops to source the best ingredients to baking, cleaning up and delivery. Every item on the cake is completely bespoke and made just for you. Unlike a shop-bought cake which will be baked and decorated by machine in less than 5 minutes, our pieces are bespoke works which can easily take up to 100 man hours to make. While even some independent designers may produce anywhere up to 10 wedding cakes in a week, we will only have one on the go at any one time which means we do not benefit from the economies of scale which are enjoyed by some larger businesses. We aim to provide an exclusive service providing a luxury product for the most important day of your lives.
Unfortunately while we can guarantee that we may not purposefully add a specific ingredient to your cake mix, we are not a certified allergen-free kitchen so can not guarantee that a cake will be completely free of allergens or, be inadvertently affected by cross-contamination. If you have any questions about allergens, please contact us before ordering.
